What is the Specialized Practice Education and Training Benefits Program?
The purpose of the program (専門実践教育訓練給付金) is to create more career transition opportunities for mid-to long-term career workers, enhance their employability, and help them move to new and better jobs or roles. It is addressed to individuals under employment insurance who can apply for a partial education and training fee reimbursement by HelloWork.
Who is eligible for a Specialized Practice Education and Training Benefits Program
Applicants must meet the requirements stipulated by the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare and HelloWork as well as the course approval criteria stipulated by Le Wagon Tokyo.
From HelloWork side:
- An applicant has been covered by employment insurance in Japan for at least 2 years (3 years if you’ve already received Education and Training benefits before) cumulatively or has lost the eligibility no more than a year prior to the start of the program.

From Le Wagon Tokyo side:
- An applicant has completed the application process, signed a contract and paid a deposit (⅓ of the tuition fee) for a course eligible for the Practical Education and Training Benefits Program
- Applicant must fulfill attendance and project completion requirements for the given course
Please be aware that Le Wagon Tokyo is unable to determine your eligibility for the requirements set by the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare and Hello Work. Contact the nearest Hello Work office directly to confirm eligibility and for details on applying.
What courses are eligible for a Specialized Practice Education and Training Benefits Program?
How much is the subsidy?
The Specialized Practice Education and Training Benefits Program reimburses tuition fees up to 400,000 yen per year. Furthermore, if you find a job with employment insurance support within one year after completing the course, an additional 160,000 yen will be provided. This means you can receive a total of up to 560,000 yen per year.

How to apply for Specialized Practice Education and Training Benefits?
Before the bootcamp
At least one month before the start of the Le Wagon Tokyo course, you must attend a pre-training career consultation at the nearest Hello Work to determine your eligibility.
Documents to submit:
- Confirmation of your eligibility to receive the benefits (distributed by Hello Work, etc.)
- Job card (distributed by Hello Work, etc.)
- Document to confirm your identity and home address
- My Number card
- Certificate of Employment Insurance (Certificate of Eligibility for Employment Insurance is also acceptable)
- Notice of extension of the applicable period for education and training benefits (necessary when the applicable period has been extended)
- 2 photos (recent photo, front and upper body, 3.0mm (length) x 2.5mm (width))
- Passbook or cash card of the financial institution at which payment should be received
- In case of application by mail (only when it is recognized that there is an unavoidable reason), attached documents such as certificates
During the consultation, you will be asked for a designated course number – please confirm it with us beforehand.
After the bootcamp
After you completed the course, you need to apply for the reimbursement within one month counting from the day after the completion of the course. The documents to be submitted may differ depending on individual circumstances. Please check with your Hello Work office and Le Wagon Tokyo.
