How Maite, Former Travel Consultant, Became A Software Engineer

In April 2020, Maite was one of the many people who got let go because of COVID's impact on the travel industry. As Melbourne entered its second lockdown, she joined Batch #452 to focus on learning how to code... Today, only 6 months after finishing the course, she is a FullStack Developer at Metigy!
Summary
'If you are thinking of a career in tech, learning to code is the first and absolutely necessary step to accomplish it. I can’t recommend Le Wagon enough!'

Can you introduce yourself to our community?

Hi fellow and future Wagoners! My name is Maite, I'm 26 years old, I am Argentinian and I was part of the Melbourne Batch #452.

What did you do before joining Le Wagon Australia?

Before Le Wagon, I was working as a Travel Consultant. A couple of months after the pandemic started, I was let go and decided to take the chance to learn something new. I was looking for something that could potentially have a big impact on my future job opportunities.

I started with the idea of learning a bit of programming, but as time passed by I realised that A) I was really passionate about what I was learning, and B) coding could be a real game changer for my career. I have some friends that had done Le Wagon and they were always praising the course and the opportunities that came out of it.

How would you describe your experience in Le Wagon Melbourne?

I loved every minute of it. Our batch was entirely remote as Melbourne was going through a strict lockdown. The level of organization and support was everything I was missing when learning by myself. From day 1 you are able to access the entire curriculum, slides, resources, exercises and videos you are going to use during the course. The teachers are available at all times to answer your questions and you get to meet and work with a group of people that are going through the same process as you. Last but not least, you get to join a 10K+ global community, where you can always connect with new people.

Maite with Batch #452, finally meeting after the lockdown!

So, what’s up since you graduated?

After I graduated, I started doing some freelancing for a marketing agency in Melbourne. In March, however, I started a new role as a Junior Fullstack Engineer at Metigy, a Sydney-based company that provides software that helps SMEs design and execute marketing strategies. At the moment I’m trying to absorb as much as I can and I would love to keep working as a Software Engineer in the future.

What would you say to someone thinking about joining the course?

It has been the best decision I’ve made and every day I remind myself of how far I’ve come. If you are thinking of a career in tech, learning to code is the first and absolutely necessary step to accomplish it. I can’t recommend Le Wagon enough!
