Are you trying to learn Web Development or Data skills but struggling to keep motivated? Here’s some advice from our alumni now working in the tech industry on how to succeed at learning during the bootcamp.

Practice is Key

“To master any new skill, including coding, practice is key. Try to code regularly and build something from scratch. Embrace mistakes, as they are an integral part of the learning process,” Melina Kim.

Consider learning through projects. Projects help you build your experience by putting your skills into practice and teaching you to embrace mistakes. Every bug you fix brings you a step closer to mastering code.

Find a community

“Learn with other people who want the same things as you do. You will accelerate your learning process and meet like-minded people and have an experience you would not have if learning on your own.” Renato.

Learning with others who share the same passion for coding will motivate you to keep going, even when the going gets tough. Join coding communities, attend meetups, and collaborate on projects. You’ll be amazed at how much you can achieve together!

It’s Okay to be Confused

“Some things won’t make sense at first and that’s okay. It WILL all come together in the end.”

Cat reminds us that not everything will make sense right away, and that’s perfectly normal. Coding can be challenging and you’ll encounter concepts that seem confusing at first but with a matter of weeks we’ve seen students excel when combining creative thinking, patience and teamwork.

Don’t compare yourself to others, go at your own pace

Says Amir. While it’s tempting to compare yourself to others, everyone has their own journey. Focus on your own growth, celebrate your achievements, and keep pushing yourself to be better than you were yesterday. It’s your personal progress that matters most.

Just give it a try.

“Just give it a try, it can open many doors, and you never know where you can end up,” Kurt.

Learning to code can open up numerous doors in the tech industry and beyond. Whether you want to develop apps, work in web development, or even explore data science, coding skills are highly sought-after in today’s job market. So, don’t hesitate to explore this exciting world of endless possibilities!
